Tutoring:  Tutors work one-on-one with a student who needs help building their academic skills and completing their homework.  Volunteers will build meaningful relationships with the students, working closely with them to help them reach their academic goals. Tutors come in on the same day each week and work with the same student week to week during the school year. Requires a commitment for duration of the school year or longer.

College Mentoring: College Mentors work one-on-one with a high school senior to help them progress smoothly through their college application process.  College Mentors will work mostly with their student individually on their own time. College Mentors will be guided by CYD’s college specialist.  Requires a commitment for duration of the school year or longer.

Assisting with CYD AfterSchool:  Volunteers assist staff with our daily activities.  (School Year: volunteers are welcome to drop in as their schedule allows)

Joining us on field trips or other ExtraHours activities: Field trips are a fun and informal way to meet our students. We also welcome volunteers recommending and planning field trips for our students.  (Year-Round: calendars are published monthly)

Job Shadowing:  Volunteers welcome students into their workplace for a day or week so the student can gain hands-on experience. Volunteers also attend a career panel where they share their career as well as their path to success with students. (April – one day commitment minimum)

Career Mentoring: Career Mentors work with a CYD student who is interested in their field, giving the student the opportunity to explore their interests through direct experience. (Summer)

Sharing a special skill, talent or area of expertise: Volunteers can teach workshops to our students as their schedule allows. (Anytime!)

Fundraisers/Events: Volunteers help with all aspects of planning our two fundraisers. Projects include: raffle and silent auction solicitation, invites and mailings, decorations, promotions and publicity. Volunteers also celebrate the holidays to our students, coordinating our annual gift giving and party.  (Spring, Fall, and November/December)
