Our newest program and work-in-process is our Transitions Program. With the help from volunteers from the 2007 Leadership Atlanta Class, we identified the need to guide our students through each of the major stages of their lives with CYD and are currently developing a series of workshops/events and map to success. The main focus of the Transitions Program are our alums who face the biggest change as they move from high school graduates to successful and self-sufficient adults. Many of alums will be the first in their family to make this transition and continue to need the support of CYD as young adults.
Induction Ceremony: For students
entering CYD as elementary school students, our Induction Ceremony welcomes them to our family and introduces them to our values and commitment.
9th Grade Workshop: High school can be a major adjustment for students, with new demands for high GPAs, larger schools, more opportunities and new peer pressures. CYD offers a one-day workshop addressing time-management, goal-mapping, communication and interpersonal skills.
Graduation Celebration: Our annual Graduation Celebration is a rite of passage for our high school seniors as they become CYD alums and a way to celebrate their success and well as the success of alums in college. Students who have graduated from high school and have plans to attend college in the fall receive a laptop from donors Peggy and Bob Dennis at this event. (Visit our 2008 Time to Dream Web site)
College Send-Off: Navigating their first days and year at college has been hard for many of our students. From understanding financial aid to picking classes and joining clubs, our College Send-Off will help prepare our recent graduates for college.
Alums Conference and Program: In January 2008, we held our first Alums Conference. We offered four workshops - networking, financial literacy, planning and etiquette. Based on feedback from our Alums, each of these workshops offered them information and skills that were relevant to their lives and easily put to use in the near future. Based on the success of this event, it will become an annual event and will be complemented by smaller-scale workshops throughout the year.
