| EXTRA HOURS |
In addition to CYD AfterSchool during the academic year, Create Your Dreams plans extra activities for our students. During the summer, each group of students comes for a one week summer camp. We call these times "Extra Hours" at Create Your Dreams because it allows us to spend more time with our students and go on variety of field trips.
During the year, "Extra Hours" programs complement our after-school curriculum and take place on weeknights, Fridays, the weekends, and during school vacations. Our goal is to average four after-hours activities each month. Activities will include: career fairs, community service projects, field trips to museums and other cultural venues, dinner at our studio, discussions or workshops about special topics such as cultural awareness and diversity, awards ceremonies, and bring-your-parent(s) events. These "Extra Hours" programs are a great opportunity for volunteers as well.

| Every summer, we run a four-week summer camp, designed to reward our students for their hard work during the year. Each group comes for one week and participates in a variety of activities. We take exciting field-trips to Six Flags and White Water, go to movies, go bowling, swimming, and skating, do arts and crafts projects, and go to cultural exhibits. Though the focus of our camp program is having fun, the benefits reach far beyond momentary enjoyment. Many of our kids learned to swim at Create Your Dreams, never having had the opportunity to go to a pool before. At Six Flags, they conquer their fear of trying something new. It is truly magical to see a student get on a ride that they shied away from the hour, or year, before. Moreover, it keeps us in touch with our students throughout the year. The break of the summer is long, and kids often change significantly during this time. With summer camp, we remain a positive influence on our students during a time when it would be possible for them to slip away. Just giving them something to do, someplace to be, helps us focus them on staying true to their goals and dreams. |
